              Nu &auml;r det officiellt: Den italienska d&auml;ckstillverkaren Pirelli blir ny d&auml;cksleverant&ouml;r i Formel 1. Fr&aring;n och med s&auml;songen 2011 f&aring;r man f&ouml;rtroendet att under 3 &aring;r f&ouml;rse F1-teamen med enhetsd&auml;ck. Pirelli, som fr o m i &aring;r levererar d&auml;ck till den nya GP3-serien fick ocks&aring; kontraktet f&ouml;r GP2-m&auml;sterskapet och blir d&auml;rmed ensam d&auml;cksleverant&ouml;r till de 3 h&ouml;gsta divisionerna inom internationell formelbilsracing.
              <br>

              FIA, den internationella Motorsportfederationen fattade beslutet idag i samr&aring;d med FOTA (the Formula One Teams Association) och F1:s egen organisation FOM (Formula One Management). Pirellis f&ouml;rslag var tidigt favorittippat i t&auml;vlingen om d&auml;ckskontraktet bl a f&ouml;r att man f&ouml;rt t&auml;ta diskussioner med stallen under upphandlingsarbetet. Redan inf&ouml;r Turkiets GP gick flera F1-team ut och f&ouml;rordade Pirelli framf&ouml;r konkurrenterna Michelin och Avon/Cooper. Avtalet s&auml;kerst&auml;ller att alla team f&aring;r r&auml;ttvis behandling n&auml;r det g&auml;ller kostnader f&ouml;r teknisk utveckling och logistik, viktigt f&ouml;r teamen i dessa tider d&aring; budgetnedsk&auml;rningar &auml;r en del av Formel 1.

              I F1-avtalet st&aring;r att Pirelli skall leverera sex olika typer av d&auml;ck: fyra olika torrv&auml;dersslicks med olika gummiblandning, ett rent regnd&auml;ck samt ett intermediated&auml;ck f&ouml;r fuktiga f&ouml;rh&aring;llanden.

              F&ouml;r Pirelli inneb&auml;r f&ouml;rst&aring;s kontraktet ocks&aring; en sp&auml;nnande tid med utveckling av ny d&auml;cksteknologi p&aring; den absoluta elitniv&aring;n, samt att man exponeras p&aring; stora marknader som Sydamerika, Mellersta &Ouml;stern och Asien, d&auml;r Formel 1-cirkusen k&ouml;r flera t&auml;vlingar under s&auml;songen. Stora investeringar i marknadsf&ouml;rings&aring;tg&auml;rder v&auml;ntar f&ouml;rst&aring;s ocks&aring; f&ouml;r att fullt ut utnyttja det prestigfyllda uppdraget.

              Avg&ouml;rande f&ouml;r beslutet fr&aring;n FIA &auml;r f&ouml;rst&aring;s att Pirelli sedan m&aring;nga &aring;r tillbaka har bevisat sin kapacitet som leverant&ouml;r av enhetsd&auml;ck till bl a WRC - World Rally Championships, Rolex Sports Series f&ouml;r sportvagnar i USA, World Superbike Championships, VM i Motocross m fl, totalt ett 70-tal bil- och MC-m&auml;sterskap jorden runt.

              Pirelli deltog senast i Formel 1 fr&aring;n 1981 - 1991 med en f&ouml;rsta seger via Nelson Piquet i en Brabham 1985. Sista g&aring;ngen en Pirellif&ouml;rsedd F1-bil vann under 1900-talet var Canadas GP 1991 ocks&aring; med Nelson Piquet, den h&auml;r g&aring;ngen i en Benetton-Ford. Totalt har man segrar noterade under sin tid som d&auml;cksleverant&ouml;r i F1.

              - Pirelli announces its new
partnership with Peugeot Works Team for the World Rally
Championship (WRC). The deal will last for the three rallying
seasons 2005-2007.

              The agreement with Peugeot, 9 times World Rally Champion already,
and now with Pirelli for the first time, is another important
recognition of the top performance of the P Zero rally range of
tyres, winner of 19 World Rally Crowns (Drivers and Manufacturers)
sofar, the latter scored by reigning 2003 champion Petter Solberg
with his WRC Subaru Impreza.
              <br>
              
<br>
              Thanks to Peugeot, Pirelli now doubles its team power. Together
with Peugeot and Subaru, the Italian tyres will go maximum attack
fighting for new, and more important success.

              It is no coincidence that Pirelli has selected the worlds
southernmost urban extremity, last outpost before the Antarctic,
for the presentation of Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482.
              <br>
              As the northern hemispheres motoring world is gearing up for
the summer holidays, the latest tyre in the Planet Zero range takes
on the perils of the most difficult winter conditions in Patagonia.
Snow, ice and intense cold: in Ushuaia, Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482
confirms that it is Pirellis most extreme Ultra High
Performer (UHP).
              <br>

              To exalt its qualities and facilitate the pleasure of driving
increasingly high performance and demanding cars, even in winter
conditions that are often on the limit: that is the purpose of
Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482.
              <br>
              
<br>
              But the significance of the new tyre does not stop at its ability
to measure up to severe road conditions. Sottozero does, in fact,
represent a new concept: to ensure the maximum level of performance
and safety in all the extreme situations that winter
often imposes on the roads.

<strong>Ever lower: inches for all seasons</strong>

              Since the birth of P Zero&amp;#8482 in the mid-Eighties, Pirelli
has systematically reduced the aspect ratio (H/D) of its tyres, one
of its trump cards. Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 confirms this
increase in rim dimensions, which is also the way to go in the
field of winter tyres: a segment that, until yesterday, has often
seen motorists forced to move down to smaller wheels in order to
achieve maximum safety on ice and snow.
              <br>
              
<br>
              Today, that need no longer exists: the new Pirelli winter tyre
enables drivers to utilise the same rims they use for good weather
motoring, due to a portfolio of sizes in the Winter
Sottozero&amp;#8482 that ranges from 15-19 inches, and is headed by
the 19-inch Directional-Asymmetric pairing already homologated as
original equipment for the Lamborghini Gallardo. All with speed
ratings that rise to V (up to 240 km/h), a segment
which, from 1999 to today, has recorded an average annual increase
in Europe of about 100% of total sales, and in which it is no
coincidence that Pirelli is the undisputed leader.

              As well as an unquestioned technical superiority, this possibility
to fit winter tyres to rims of ample diameter is also satisfying
from the design point of view. The latest stylistic trends of the
most modern super sports cars necessitate wide rims and tyres with
lower shoulders  one of the four basic requirements fully
satisfied by Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482. To complete customer
expectations, the other three are:

              On the performance and safety fronts, top marks were awarded by the
severe German motoring press to Pirelli winter tyres, which often
came out the leaders, following a series of exacting tests.

expresses to the limit of results obtained from research and
development.

<strong>Winter changes, Pirelli technology conforms</strong>
              
<br>
              It seems like a century ago, but it was only in the
Eighties&amp;#8230 Less than 20 years since changing to winter
tyres was only a means of facing up to extreme conditions. Snow and
ice were the most feared enemies of the motorist: the
seasonal tyre ensured the best traction and braking
on snow, but its handling in the dry and wet left much to be
desired, not to mention acoustic comfort.
              <br>
              
<br>
              Snow tyres had high shoulders and often forced drivers to change to
smaller diameter rims.
              <br>
              It was in the Nineties that winter covers took a decisive step
forward in all of those areas: more inches, more effective in the
dry and wet as well as in driving on snow - and comfort improved at
last.
              <br>
              But the choice of that kind of tyre was still focused on extreme
conditions: snow and ice, for which no-one wanted to use ice spikes
or chains any more. In all other conditions, the difference in
handling compared to summer tyres made itself felt -
negatively.
              <br>

              Now, such conditions no longer exist. Further improved in every way
for driving in extreme situations, the new Pirelli winter covers
ensure top performance even in normal road conditions.
              <br>

              Acoustic and dynamic comfort, performance and driveability from dry
to wet to snow, the availability of sizes up to 19 inches: Winter
Sottozero&amp;#8482 is the first real dual-season winter tyre,
which ensures the maximum in performance and effectiveness, from
the end of October until the beginning of April, whatever the
ambient weather conditions may be or the car (even extra sporty) to
which they are fitted. And it is precisely the approval of the
demanding German market  among the most sensitive to extreme
winter conditions  that demonstrates those facts.

              If sales volume of snow tyres reached three million in the Eighties
and rose to over seven million a decade later, today the market
segment in which the Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 will take its place
now amounts to over 19 million tyres in Europe. And that phenomenon
is in rapid expansion: from 1997-2003, the sale of winter tyres
went up by almost 80%; an unstoppable increase for winter tyres in
sizes of more than 17 inches or with a V speed
rating, confirming the fact that it is the sports and ultra-sports
cars that demand the most in this segment.

              Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 responds to those needs with the maximum
of available technology.
              <br>
              Nano-composite materials and a new type of silicone for the tread
compound, the Pirelli twin-strata system for greater rigidity at
the base of the tread and less in the tread block area  they
all guarantee the new winter tyre great performance and maximum
reliability.

<strong>From motorsport to Sottozero</strong>

              As with all maximum performance tyres, Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482
is the culmination of a route that also traversed motor sport,
always the mobile test laboratory and a privileged element in
Pirelli research and development.

              In particular, the achievement of the tread compounds of this
winter cover benefited from the extensive work constantly taking
place in support of world championship rallying, for many years a
source of top level success for Pirelli.
              <br>
              Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 extends the series of Pirellis
winter tyres of innovative technical significance.
              <br>
              
<br>
              Which began in 1995 with a Directional version of the Winter tyre
 soon followed by an asymmetric  and continued with
great sales success by Winter Snowsport&amp;#8482 (1999) and Winter
Snowcontrol&amp;#8482 (2001), which Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 now
joins: a completely innovative project.

              Starting with a new, patented tread pattern, divided into two
completely different internal and

              external areas of the tyre to guarantee exceptional performance in
perfect equilibrium of yield on the different surfaces encountered.
Winter Sottozero&amp;#8482 also comprises the most significant
technological innovations, among them its nano-composites,
reinforcing elements of molecular dimensions, which are used at the

                - Pirelli presents Planet Zero:the new and
ever more complete range of Ultra-High Performance
(UHP)tyres,designed and developed to exalt the qualities of
increasingly demanding and high performing cars.But the meaning of
Planet Zero goes beyond the technological values of the product.It
has,in fact,become a concept:destined to write a new page for
Pirelli and the whole UHP tyre world in the history of
motoring.

                Maximum attention paid by Pirelli to a range of tyres of this type
-as well as being part of the company s DNA for decades-is
also motivated by the growing performance of the car in all
segments on a global scale.The P Zero System was only unveiled a
decade ago,in 1994:the first pairing of a tyre with a directional
tread pattern and another of asymmetric design,respectively for the
front and rear wheels of the same car.
                <br>
                At that time,there were not many cars on the market capable of the
kind of performance that could take advantage of such a tyre
choice.But since then,the car world has changed
radically.Today,just about every car manufacturer offers models
able to exceed a maximum power output of over 200 hp,which at the
end of the Eighties were almost an organic limit:beyond them,there
existed only the super and luxury cars or roadsters of a special
sporting appeal.In 1994,the high performance car segment was well
under 10% of the total worldwide:today,that percentage is close to
25%.And it is significant that,10 years ago,the percentage of
Pirelli tyres with a high-speed rating -240 km/h and over-was
already close to 20%of the company s production,and today it
is more than half its output across the world.

                So Pirelli is pleased and proud to accompany in some cases
to even propose - this transformation of the world car market.For
today,the car is considered less like a means of transport and more
a true source of pleasure,for which performance,comfort and safety
must progress on equal terms.

<b>PZero Corsa System:now the range is complete</b>

                The first PZero tyre appeared in 1987:created to equip the
legendary Ferrari F40.In 1994, out came the P Zero System:a
directional tread pattern for the front and an asymmetric for the
rear,paired in that way to optimise the respective directionality
and traction of the two axles.From that moment on,the decidedly
more elevated car performance panorama began to broaden at
gathering speed.And the PZero range was not caught
unprepared.

                At the road use level,the enrichment was quick and with a growing
ability to meet increasingly different and extreme technical and
driving demands.From 2000,it was PZero Rosso:a tyre homologated as
original equipment on many maximum prestige cars of both a sporting
and luxury pedigree.Even today, PZero Rosso is the most versatile
of products, able to ensure the utmost equilibrium between
performance,driving comfort and safety in any conditions of use,and
for increasingly sporty cars.To meet the ever greater extreme needs
of cars of yet higher performance,as in the case of the
tuners,along came the PZero Nero in 2002:mainly aimed at the
replacement sector,a product tailored to specific needs.PZero Nero
is a tyre built using that MIRS technology,which enables
Pirelli to write a new page in the history of tyre production,now
carried out entirely by robotised systems and the
source,therefore,of total precision and optimisation of the
product,as well as the reduction and greater versatility of
production plants.

                In 2003, PZero Corsa became the final development -up until
now,that is-in the PZero car range.It is a road tyre oriented
towards the needs of a car of extreme performance, with a
particular inclination towards being driven on the track.This tyre
s logical evolution is the PZero Corsa System:a new
combination,further optimised between the directional tread pattern
for the front and asymmetric for the rear. PZero Corsa System is
also made with a number of production phases derived from the MIRS
 production process, additional confirmation of the maximum
technological level available in these products for the highest
segment of the range.

                The arrival of the PZero Corsa System further enriches Planet Zero.
It is no exaggeration to say that,today,from top to extreme

<b>Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico:the 4x4 into the future</b>

                The first Scorpion Zero appeared in 1997:a tyre made expressly for
high performance Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs).With a segment of
SUVs of increasingly ambitious off-road intentions at a world
level,the Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico was launched in 2003, the first
tyre of its kind built using MIRS  technology.
                <br>
                The 4x4 accelerated into the future with that tyre.If SUVs capable
of elevated performance were then few and far between,today the
panorama has expanded greatly,involving,in reality,almost all the
car manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic.In Europe,there are
an ever-increasing number of vehicles with an off-road vocation,but
without completely renouncing maximum equipment and,in some cases,
luxury.But,above all,taking the high performance road with a speed
potential of well over 250 km/h.

                Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico was designed and developed specifically
to bolster the performance ambitions of SUVs on the road while,of
course,completely maintaining their off-road efficiency.The new
cover is assured of maximum uniformity,thanks to the MIRS 
technology it adopts.Size availability is extensive and goes up to
24-inches in diameter.

                The constant evolution in the performance of cars that are more
refined and of increasing dimensions has produced a real escalation
in tyre sizes over the last 10 years. Not so much in the width of
the tread,more in rim diameters.

                In the mid-Nineties,original equipment for cars of the medium-high
and high segments -for example up to a BMW 5 Series-included tyres
of between 14 and 17 inches. In the case of replacement and the
tuning evolution,those tyres could be of dimensional increments of
up to two inches. Today, the situation has changed completely.Even
cars of small dimensions are homologated as original equipment on
tyres of close to 20 inches in diameter. A BMW 7 Series needs 22
inch at the time of changeover, in a market that often suggests the
use of rims of from three to four inches bigger in diameter than
the OE on every single model:that has led to the adoption of almost
unimaginable sizes,compared to just a few years ago.

                The tyre dimensions subject becomes even more important and
characteristic in the SUV sector,in which the upsurge in
performance has also been impressive over the last 10-15 years, as
has the constant increase in technical and technological levels.

till nya Ferrari Challenge Stradale. Idag ska nya P Zero testas
p bana, p Road Atlantas asfaltsbana endast ett par
kilometer frn den amerikanska delstaten Georgias huvudstad.
              <p>P Zero Corsa r Pirellis svar p expertfrarnas
unika behov: sportbilsinnehavare som kr sina msterverk
p bana fr att uppleva ren krgldje och
f mjlighet att testa de snabba bilarnas fulla
kapacitet. Detsamma gller fr Ferrari Challenge

dcksserie Scorpion STR p den internationella
marknaden, ett dck som har utvecklats speciellt fr den
nya generationens SUV och 4x4-fordon. Fretaget beslt
att skapa Scorpion STR speciellt fr det omvxlande och
strukturerade segment som r en gemensam nmnare fr
SUV och sportaktiviteter, crossovers och pickups, 4x4 och MPV. Det
handlar om kraftfulla och mngsidiga fordon med bde
aktiva och passiva skerhetssystem, som nu r en
frutsttning fr vriga bilkategoriers
existens. Med STR-projektet frsker Pirelli anpassa
dckets prestandaparametrar efter den speciella, sofistikerade
tekniken i dessa nya fordon, med siktet instllt p

              Scorpion STR har redan accepterats av Ford Excursion och
